Tech tale for our times

Last weekend was hectic - Alyssa got married. We had house guests, a rehearsal dinner, an extra dog. It was wonderful, but as I said, hectic.

Monday, we couldn't find our remote control for our Amazon Fire TV. This is our access to our "good" television - Hulu, Netflix, Prime, etc. I ordered a new one from Amazon. We looked all over - behind the couch and under the furniture - no luck. It was missing.

When the new replacement remote control arrived, I had to pair it with my device. The instructions, which came with the remote, were simple. Here is what they said (paraphrased).

For a replacement remote:
1. Power off the device.
2. Power it on. Wait up to a minute, and the light will blink.
3. Press and hold "home" on the remote.

I powered my device off and on, but the light did not start to blink. I was unable to pair the remote. So, I did some elementary troubleshooting. I figured out the problem - the device was still paired with the original remote, which was somewhere in the room. We searched again, but still could not find it.

I went back to the instructions and read the instructions for using the new remote as a second (additional) remote. They began like this:
1. On your original remote control...So, we could not pair the new remote without finding the missing remote.

There is a happy ending. I was able to pair the new remote by disconnecting the device and taking it into my bedroom (with the doors closed) and using my new TV to pair it.

A poem about Judgment

The only "e" in "judgment" shows up right before the "n".
But in between the "g" and "m" - there's nothing there, my friend.

While on a wilderness hiking trail in the Adirondacks, I missed a step crossing a stream and soaked my sneaker and sock. I was longing for a clothesline. When we got to a lean-to, I found one! Made my day...

Clothes hanging season coming late

Although the 2014 baseball season has had it's opening day, we may have a late start to the outdoor clothes hanging season this year in Chenango Forks.

A Poem
It's been a quiet winter - snow too deep and temperature too cold for clothes hanging. So, here's a poem.
================================================

To my wife
I must confess a gruesome fact before you find it out.
It's about the laundry - please try not to shout.

I did a partial wash today - I didn't do it all.
I wasn't sure just what to do - I had to make a call.

I skipped the sheets and linens - they aren't very clean.
I thought that adding them would overload the damn machine.
